It’s (video) storytime!

Would you consider yourself a prejudiced person? Racist? Hateful? Most people would probably say no to that, but is it possible to still be biased against people even if you don’t know it? Is it possible to hold wrong assumptions  – even dangerous assumptions – about people even if you would never call yourself prejudiced?

I think the answer is yes. Because I’ve seen it in myself.

This week, a couple friends of mine put on an event to promote the cause of visual peacemaking, and they asked me to tell a quick story on video to contribute to the presentation. As you can guess, a good deal of prejudice in the West these days is against Muslims, so I decided to tell the story of an event that showed me something surprising about myself and forever impacted the way I see the world.

Today, I’d like to share that video with you.

(Now, you must know that I really hate seeing video of myself – and letting other people see video of me – but I’m posting this in hopes that sharing it might do some good and maybe have a beneficial impact on someone out there watching. So this is for you! )
